Our BackToArchery Tournament 2020 was an outstanding success with archers from every RGB participating.
BackToArchery Background
Due to COVID-19, Archery Australia had to cancel all tournaments until restrictions lifted enough to enable people to compete in a safe environment. As things began to return to normal, we wanted a tournament to kick start the competition spirit again.
BackToArchery was born with the idea of it being a national postal shoot so every archer could compete from their very own club, allowing each archer to follow the COVID-19 restrictions for their area. We decided on the Canberra rounds to ensure everyone could participate and also choose to award places based on raw & handicap score.
2020 Tournament
Excitingly, we had 824 archers from 53 clubs participate in the tournament. We had some fantastic scores with many of our junior archers showing the older ages how it’s done.
“The whole world was turned upside with COVID-19 and it has been a challenging year for many. We are thankful to the archery community for being responding to the COVID-19 restrictions quickly and focusing on keeping everyone safe,” said Rick Hastie, Archery Australia CEO.
“This BackToArchery tournament has had the largest number of archers participate in many years. It was fantastic to see more and more people register every week to keep the archery spirit alive. Congratulations to all of our medalists and thank you to every for participating.”

Given the success of this BackToArchery Tournament, Archery Australia will explore doing something similar in future years.
