National Volunteer Week | Event volunteers
Event volunteering is a hands-on way to get involved in archery, from scoring to setup, handing out lunches, taking the photos and videos to share, moving the targets, establishing the field course, line marking and pack down. These roles help create successful events so those competing can keep focusing on their performance.
This weekend in particular at the Australian Open Field Championships we thank local volunteers Phillip Edwards and Sam Pearse. As locals with close access to the venue they have been "chiselling away" at the hillside, designing the field course, making trails and steps for the steeper parts.
Thanks to all the people who want to be part of something bigger than themselves and bring the sport to life through competitions and events.

The 2026 Open Field Championships have just begun at HILLS ARCHERS in South Australia.
For those unable to attend in person, we’ll be live-streaming the event on Sunday via the Archery Australia website so the community across the country can follow the action. 🎥
Good luck to all archers competing this weekend! And thank you again to our partners and sponsors for helping make this event possible.

#OpenFieldChampionships
Today is the first day of the Australian Field Nationals and it’s fitting as they start to acknowledge one of our biggest contributors and advocates for the Australian Open Field format – David Rowson and Marie Hulbert.
Since the 2022 event, David and Marie have contributed a significant amount in prize money, silver buckles and pins to the Australian Open Field Championships.
We are so grateful to David and Marie for their involvement and contribution to the sport of archery. They both have been key figures in Archery NSW for many years, playing key roles within the state and club committees and promoting archery to all levels and ages.
As a member of Penrith City Archers, David has been promoting an intermediate coaching program and assisting with beginner courses. Penrith City Archers has flourished with all disciplines of archery being practised: target, field, clout and indoor.
Thanks to all the volunteers, organising committee and members of the Archery SA community for organising and bringing us a great Australian Open Field Championships that David, Marie and the AA community will be proud of.
