The Australian Open Field Championships. Five days of unmarked and marked field, teams and individual eliminations, over Australia’s most demanding course, with a silver belt buckle waiting at the end of every division.

THE PRIZE YOU WEAR

A silver belt buckle goes to the winner of each division. Not a medal, not a certificate but a thing an archer wears. The buckles are handmade and provided by David Rowson, and the event emblem carries their form and detail into everything the Championships put out.

Archers here are also shooting for selection to the Australian team for the World Field Championships in Yankton, USA.

Marked field in the morning, teams eliminations through to the semi-finals

Saturday 23 May, 6:00–8:30pm at Lobethal Bierhaus, 3A Main Street, Lobethal. Wood-fired pizza and a cash bar, eight minutes from the course.

HOW IT'S SHOT

1 Unmarked and marked field

Both rounds shot over the Hills Archers course. Compound and recurve shoot the red pegs; barebow shoots the blue.

2 Mixed team of three

One recurve, one compound, one barebow, mixed gender. Eliminations run Friday afternoon through to the semi-finals.

3 Head to head finals

Individual eliminations on Saturday, finals matches on Sunday. The winner of each division takes a silver belt buckle.

The legacy of the tournament is Australia’s newest and likely most challenging field course, cut and prepared by the team at Hills Archers in the Adelaide Hills. Steep, wooded and unforgiving of a lazy peg read.

Teams are three archers — one recurve, one compound, one barebow — and must be mixed gender. One captain registers the team. No team? Register your interest on the same form.
