Updating Names of Youth Categories

Archery Australia has amended the names of its youth age categories to follow the naming conventions at an international level. World Archery have clearly laid out the youth age divisions and Member Associations around the world are now following suit.

Previous Youth Age Category Names

Previously the age categories were:

  • Cub: Athletes born in the year 2009 or since 2009
  • Intermediate: Athletes born in the years 2007 or 2008
  • Cadet: Athletes born in the years 2006 or 2005
  • Junior: Athletes born in the years 2002, 2003 or 2004

New Youth Age Category Names

These have been replaced with:

  • U14: Athletes born in the year 2009 or since 2009
  • U16: Athletes born in the years 2007 or 2008
  • U18: Athletes born in the years 2006 or 2005
  • U21: Athletes born in the years 2002, 2003 or 2004

The change is only in the name, there has been no change to when a member changes an age division it remains as before:

  • Cub/U14: An athlete may compete in the U14 class in tournaments until December 31 of the year of his or her 13th birthday.
  • Intermediate/U16: An athlete may compete in the U16 class in tournaments until December 31 of the year of his or her 15th birthday.
  • Cadet/U18: An athlete may compete in the U18 class in tournaments until December 31 of the year of his or her 17th birthday.
  • Junior/U21: An athlete may compete in the U21 class in tournaments until December 31 of the year of his or her 20th birthday.
