Paralympic Update: Archers Off To Czech Republic

Five archers are off to the Czech Republic for their first international competition in over 18 months.

Congratulations to Taymon Kenton-Smith (recurve open), Ameera Lee (compound open), Peter Marchant (compound open), Imalia Oktrininda (recurve open) and Garry Robinson (compound open) who will competing at Para-Archery World Ranking Tournament and Final Paralympic Qualification Tournament from 3 to 10 July 2021.

Tokyo Paralympic Games Update

Australia currently has 1 Paralympic spot for Tokyo 2020 which Jonathon Milne was awarded earlier this year. In the Czech Republic, our archers have an opportunity to obtain further quota spots at the Paralympic Games (27 Aug – 4 Sep 2021)

Final Paralympic Qualification Tournament

The FPQT will take place in Nové Město nad Metují, Czech Republic next week.

This competition will provide great competition experience for all of these archers, especially for the Paralympics.

Tuesday 6 July – Morning Qualification Gr1, FQT elimination (1st rounds), Afternoon Qualification Gr2

Wednesday 7 July – AM Europe Qualifying Tournament Tokyo, Afternoon WRE Individual Eliminations

Thursday 8 July – Morning Final Qualifying Tournament Tokyo, Afternoon WRE Mixed Teams, Eliminations to ½, VI Medals matches

Friday 9 July – Morning WRE Individuals Eliminations to ½, Afternoon WRE Individuals Eliminations to 1/2

Saturday 10 July – Morning Mixed teams medals matches, Afternoon Individuals Medals matches

COVID-19 Procedures

After discussions with the Paralympics Australia, the Australian Institute of Sport and World Archery and their respective health experts, including Archery Australia’s Chief Medical Officer, it was agreed to send the archers to Czech Republic after which they will return home before preparing to head to Tokyo.

The health of our athletes and support staff is a priority. They have all received the COVID-19 vaccine and will follow strict COVID-19 protocol for the entire time they are overseas.
