2021 World Archery Youth Championships Selection Policy

The World Archery Youth Championships is a biannual event that provides youth archers competitive international experience.

Archery Australia was thrilled when Perth was announced to host the 2021 Championships, however due to the COVID-19 border issues it could longer be held there.

Now, the 2021 World Archery Youth Championships will be conducted in Wroclaw, Poland from 9 August to 15 August 2021.

Archery Australia has released the team selection policy which is available here.

About The Policy

This policy details the process established by Archery Australia for the selection of archers to represent Australia at the 2021 World Archery Youth Championships.

The unprecedented challenges experienced in 2020 and 2021 with the COVID-19 pandemic and the continuing uncertainty surrounding international competition and international travel, means it will remain difficult for any Archery Australia team to travel overseas in 2021.

Factors that will be taken under consideration before a decision is made on international travel include:

  • Currently no travel insurers will insure a team that travels to a country that the Australian Federal Government Advises to ‘Do not travel’.
  • Athlete quarantine cost is currently $3000 per person
  • For athletes under 18 there is a question around who will be responsible for the welfare of the athlete during the 14 days quarantine if they are in isolation.
  • There may be additional costs if flights are cancelled or seats cancelled, this is still happening on a regular basis with international flights.

Objectives

The principal objectives when selecting this team are to:

  • Maximise the number of medals won by Australia
  • Expose developing athletes to the rigours of international competition
  • Maintain a safe and healthy team at all times
