WORLD CUP OGDEN USA and OLYMPIC QUALIFYING TOURNAMENT At the end of Day 1 in Ogden USA I can confirm there were mixed results. The day started with very windy conditions and lower than expected temperatures that caught many off guard. RECURVE The Men’s Recurve Team finished in 7th position for the “Olympic Final Team Qualifying Tournament” and will compete against Turkey in the 1/8 match this Thursday 21 June. If we win we most likely meet Russia in the 1/4 and then Netherlands or India in the 1/2 match. There is a very high standard in this competition. Final Australian Recurve Team Placings from the Ranking Round were: Taylor Worth Mat Masonwells (Reserve – not eligible for London Olympics) Sky Kim Ryan Tyack Tomorrow is the individual elimination event which will determine who will be nominated to the AOC for the individual quota position if we do not qualify a team. Interestingly Taylor Worth and Sky Kim will cross over in the 2nd match of the day if they both win their first match. Then we need to re-group for the Teams events. Along with the 7th in the FTQT we ranked 12th in the World Cup teams event. The Women’s Recurve Team unfortunately finished 17th (by 1 point from Spain) for the Top 16 cut for the “Olympic Final Team Qualifying Tournament”. Therefore Australia will only be represented in the individual event at the London Olympics. With the same process as the Men’s Recurve the nomination for the Olympics will go to the highest placed Australian after tomorrow’s individual elimination event. Final Australian Recurve Team Placings from the Ranking Round were: Alice Ingley Elisa Barnard Deonne Bridger Odette Snazelle (Reserve – not eligible for London Olympics) COMPOUND Male Compound Placing from the Ranking Round were: Michael BronsonDerek JacobsPat CoghlanGuy Phillips The male compound team ranked 6th for the team event.
