Over the weekend Archery WA attended the Blind Sports WA 2025 Carnival of Sport event to introduce blind and vision impaired people to the sport of archery. Archery Australia WA participation lead Jade Wilcockson supported the activation by making tactile sight stands to assist the running of the day and a valuable resource to support blind and vision impaired people to get involved in archery.
Around 30 people had the opportunity to try Archery from the blind and vision impaired community and there was also the opportunity for their supports to shoot with them. It was great to see so many people get involved and enjoy the sport together at any ability.
AA and AWA are greatly appreciative of the volunteers who offered their time to make the event a success and offering such a welcoming and supportive environment. For a group of people who had not previously supported a blind or vision impaired person to do archery before, they all did an amazing job of engaging and supporting them.
As a result of the success of this engagement the team at archery park will also be taking 1 of the tactile sights out to the Rebound sport Para sports event on the 4th April to ensure the blind community can do Archery at this event also. We look forward to building this community and thank Blind Sports WA for letting us be involved.
