David Conran, nominee for the AIS ASPA Awards

David Conran is an outstanding sporting volunteer. He is always available, cheerful, friendly and is the ‘go to’ person for anyone with a question in Centenary Archers Club. His enthusiasm for archery and the archery community is infectious, his willingness to share his knowledge, his commitment to running all aspects of the club and fearlessly taking care of all the administration for the club is unparalleled, all with a positive, pleasant and welcoming manner. David has served for years as the Secretary of Centenary Archers Club (CAC), essentially the “Chief Operations Officer”, being very active at all levels of the club and beyond up to the Regional Governing Body, the South Queensland Archery Society and impacting matters at the National Governing Body, Archery Australia. David gives hugely of his time not just doing archery at a high level but also attending various meetings often in the evenings. He goes above and beyond every single week. For example, David recently organised the Pan Pacific Masters Games Archery which is our Club’s biggest event of the year. David is extremely helpful to all CAC members and newcomers. He is almost always present at the club helping archers, or working on infrastructure improvements, fixing or maintaining a wide array of equipment including bows and arrows for beginners, thus ensuring their safety, and a whole host of other skilled jobs often while no one else is around, all in his own time. Members see his influence ranging from club management through to working bees and a high level of performance at the sport itself. David shoots in regular competitions and is the holder of many club and some state records. David is also a qualified Archery Instructor, impacting the wider community through teaching archery to members of the public at our ‘Come and Try’ sessions, an essential connection with the public to encourage people to take up sport. David is also a qualified Judge officiating at events. David also does a huge amount of IT admin behind the scenes, he is a wizard with google apps and has set up a whole new IT infrastructure for the club which now runs very smoothly. David’s responsiveness is incredible, he is very rapid replying to emails which these days is the main way that the club runs. Things happen because of David. David has given consistent and high quality service virtually every day of the week. Membership has increased during the last year and the whole atmosphere is wonderful. David has also driven a ‘Talent Encouragement Fund’ which has supported young archers in attending competitions (>$4,000 in the past year) which has made a strong impact on the Youth, the future of the sport. David is without a doubt the most committed, able, enthusiastic, skilled and friendly volunteer you are ever likely to meet.
