BIOGRAPHY:

I’m Alex Smith, I live in Canberra and compete in Recurve archery for the Australian team. I have been competing in Archery for nearly 15 years and have been competing internationally since 2015.

My archery journey started in the UK where I regularly competed in local and national events as a junior, before getting more serious about the sport when I went to university. While I was at university, I trained with a very dedicated archery team, which taught me the importance of regular practice and how to train effectively. Working with this team we managed to win numerous national championship titles and even competed at the European championships. While I was at university, I also got selected into the Great Britain development program and started regularly training with national team at the Olympic training center. Following the completion of my degree I got the opportunity to move to the training center and train full time with the national team and compete internationally for Great Britain.

Upon moving to Australia in 2018 my eyes were opened to the Australian tournament scene, where I started competing in the national match play series and Australian open. These were great events to get to know a lot of the Australian archers and where I met the majority of my current teammates.

In 2021 I decided to make the jump and join the Australian High-Performance Program, making my competitive debut for Australia in the 2022 World Cup in Antalya, Turkey. Since this event I have been heavily involved with the team competing in Asia Cups and World Cups for the last two seasons along with attending my first ever field archery tournament at the World Championships in 2022, something I am very keen to pursue further.
