The NSW Institute of Sport (NSWIS) and Archery Australia have announced a partnership geared toward developing and assisting identified high performance NSW athletes and coaches achieving excellence at the highest international level.
The announcement unveiling an archery program to be added as an NSWIS Sport Program for 2022.
The partnership program being one of several new initiatives that form the foundation of Archery Australia’s Brisbane 2032 Strategy, which aims to ensure Australia is well represented on the podium at the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The three-year agreement will see the program leverage off NSWIS high performance expertise as part of an effective, nationally coordinated high performance sport network.
Archery Australia CEO, Rick Hastie said “We are incredibly appreciative of the support NSWIS has shown over the years and are delighted this support continues with an NSWIS Archery Program.”
“It is also recognition of the work our athletes and our coaches continue to dedicate to archery within NSW. We are looking forward to working closely with NSWIS as we build towards Paris 2024.”
“NSWIS has been a major supporter of Para Archery for several years and it’s fantastic that Kevin Thompson and his team at NSWIS have supported our vision to maintain support for Para Archery and to grow the program to include the Olympic discipline of Recurve,” Archery Australia High Performance Manager, Graeme Rose added.
The NSWIS Archery Program will create an optimal training environment for athletes competing at an international level, as well as support emerging athlete pathways. Working in partnership with Archery Australia, the NSWIS archers will be provided with elite coaching and support services.
NSWIS CEO, Kevin Thompson was thrilled to see both organisations extend their partnership, working towards the shared goal of assisting more athletes to realise their potential.
“NSWIS remains committed to helping more NSW athletes represent Australia and win medals at major international events,” Mr. Thompson said.
“Improving athlete pathways and investing in the development of our coaches and daily training environments will certainly aid in achieving our shared vision, as we look to the Paris 2024 Games and beyond.”
The world class training environment will be based at the Sydney Olympic Park Archery Venue and operate independently of the Sydney Olympic Park Archers club. The intention is for the National Recurve Coach and National Para Coach to be based at the NSWIS archery training venue.
