Do I need my own bow to start?
No, most if not all clubs will have equipment available to hire for your first session so you can become more familiar with equipment you might need before buying anything.
Is archery safe?
Yes, archery is one of the safest sports in Australia. We follow strict protocols to ensure that safety is maintained as a top priority.
What should I wear?
Comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes are compulsory. It’s best to avoid bulky or oversized jackets and hoodies with loose drawstrings.
How do I progress after my first session?
Many clubs offer beginner courses and pathways into social or competitive archery. You can also checkout the Archery Australia Ozbow program.
Is archery expensive?
Archery is very economical compared to other sports, equipment purchased can last for years or even longer if looked after properly. Membership fees are paid annually so you are able to shoot any time that suits your schedule.
I’ve completed my first session, should I purchase equipment now?
Archery equipment is highly personalised and not the kind of thing that can be purchased online. We recommend talking with experienced archers within your club first, who can refer you to the nearest reputable archery supplier.

My eyesight is not the best, can I still do archery?
Archery is a technique sport first and foremost before aiming. There are many ways to adapt the sport to suit any vision impairment.

Do you need to be strong to do archery?
Bows are available in all sorts of weights, to suit every ability. While being strong can help in progression its not a limiting factor in starting as bows can be accommodated for your needs.

Come and try sessions
“Come and Try” sessions are designed for people who want to give archery a go without needing their own equipment. Under the guidance of accredited coaches, you’ll learn the basics of safety, technique, equipment, etiquette and be introduced to the community within that club. It’s the perfect first step to get started in the sport.
