The National Youth Championships are bringing the buzz of a major sporting event right to your doorstep and everyone’s invited.

From 9–13 April 2026, some of Australia’s best young archers will be in Launceston competing for national titles and personal bests at the Archery Australia National Youth Championships. The competition runs across five action-packed days, and over the weekend Churchill Park comes alive with food trucks, community energy, and plenty of reasons to get outdoors in a vibrant space where sport, family, and fun all come together.
Whether you’re a sports fan, a family looking for something different, or simply curious about what an archery competition looks like, this is the kind of event you can drop into for an hour or stay all day. Entry is free for spectators.
What You’ll See
The championships showcase two different styles of archery and three different bow types. Target archery takes place at Churchill Park, where archers shoot at fixed distances on an open field – it’s precise, rhythmic, and easy to follow from the tiered spectator seating. Field archery is held at Paringa Archers in Trevallyn, where archers navigate a bushland course shooting at targets set at varying distances and angles which is a completely different challenge.
The bow types on display include recurve), compound and barebow All requiring different skill and precision to shoot and master. Each looks and feels different to watch, and you’ll quickly pick up what makes each discipline unique.
When to Come
Competition runs across the full five days, but here’s what’s happening when:
| Day | What’s On |
|---|---|
| Saturday 11th April | 900 Rounds (target) and Marked Field (field course) – full day of competition across both venues from around 9:30am |
| Sunday 12th April | Ranking Rounds from 8:20am followed by head-to-head Matchplay. |
| Monday 13th April | Matchplay Finals – the knockout rounds where it all comes down to the wire. Morning session from 8:20am, afternoon from 1:40pm |
On site at Churchill Park you’ll also find:
- Food trucks and a BBQ run by the local soccer club, plus a canteen over the weekend
- Free parking in the carpark outside the complex
- Tiered spectator seating with a great view of the competition
Never Tried Archery? Now’s Your Chance
No matter your age, experience, or ability, there’s a place for you in archery and during the championships you can step up and try it for yourself. Paringa Archers will be running archery experiences during the event, giving you the chance to get inspired and give it a go and meet with volunteers from the local club.
All equipment is provided, no booking is needed, and it’s completely free. It’s a safe, fun, and a surprisingly addictive activity that is perfect for families, school groups, and anyone who’s ever been curious about picking up a bow.

A Sport That Welcomes Everyone
Archery is a sport with inclusive formats and a strong community spirit. It’s open to all ages, all abilities, and all fitness levels. What you’ll see at the championships reflects what archery is all about, supportive, fun, and built around a shared experience that brings people together.
Events like this also support local businesses, showcase the region, and create opportunities for people to connect through sport. It’s good for the community, and it’s a great reason to get out and about.
