Another beautiful day in Lac La Biche, Canada, set the stage for the individual elimination matches. The morning kicked off with the U21 division, where Alban Thornycroft edged out Ryan Booth from the USA 101-100 in the 1/8 round, but was later defeated by Grady Kane from the USA 98-101 in the quarterfinals. Josh Turner faced a close match with Stef Williams from the USA, narrowly losing 100-99.
In the U21 recurve division, Chris Jackson had a bye in the 1/8 round and won his quarterfinal against František Hermánek from Czechia 91-85. He then advanced to the semifinals but was defeated 56-50, moving on to the bronze medal match.
In U21 barebow men, both Hugo Lobb and Judah Holmes received byes in the 1/8 round and won their quarterfinal matches. Hugo triumphed over Timotej Obreza Skerjanec from Slovenia 88-65, and Judah beat Luke Thornsbury from the USA 85-78. Both were unfortunately defeated in the semifinals, setting up an all-Australian bronze medal match.
After lunch, Lexie Feeney faced Gaby Schloesser from the Netherlands and lost by a single point, 86-87.
In the men’s barebow division, Simon Fairweather competed against the top-ranked Giuseppe Seimandi from Italy but lost 95-84. Michael Fisher defeated Canadian archer Jovica Djukic 84-79 to reach the quarterfinals, where he was narrowly beaten by David Jackson from France 86-83. In the women’s barebow category, Nicky Fairweather was defeated by Argentina’s Claudia Noemí Carcacha. May Hu put on an impressive performance, first defeating three-time world champion Lina Björklund from Sweden 74-71, and then overcoming Christine Schaefer from Germany, ranked #3, with another 74-71 win. May moved to the semifinals but was defeated by Fawn Girrard from the USA and will now compete for bronze.
In men’s recurve, Alex Smith faced Brady Ellison from the USA but lost 86-100. Meanwhile, Ryan Tyack defeated Italy’s Massimiliano Mandia and progressed to the semifinals by beating Alen Remar from Croatia 96-89. Ryan then faced Patrick Huston from Great Britain, winning the match 59-54, and will compete for the gold medal on Sunday.
