COVID 19 Update

Archery Australia remains committed to complying with advice provided by the Federal and State Government for all archery activities under its control. While Archery has relaunched across Australia, in a pandemic, small numbers become big numbers very quickly and we cannot afford for any sporting organisation or club to be the source of a community outbreak. The safety and well-being of our community is our priority and will continue to follow the AIS Framework for rebooting Sport and the Levels of operations/restrictions.

Paris24 Pathways Announcement

Archery Australia are excited to announce the first members of its recently released Paris24 (P24) Pathways program. The program is a new and exciting initiative from our HP team that focusses on developing talented archers towards the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

An extremely competitive application process saw nearly 40 archers across the country apply. A further, in-depth interview process then took place, to better understand how the candidates fit with the core values of the program, being: Commitment, Capability and Coachability.

After careful consideration, the Selection Panel can announce the following athletes into the program:

In a sign of the times, the programs first meetings will be occurring digitally. Introductions, goals, and team responsibilities are just a few of the areas the team are set to work on. Plans are underway for the group’s first in-person camp at the AIS, yet this will depend upon state and federal rules around gathering and safety. This will be closely monitored by the HP team to ensure the utmost safety for our athletes and staff.

The P24 program has a partnership between our HP team and the AIS performance Pathways unit. Archery Australia are also excited to announce that the P24 Program has been financially supported by the AIS with a Solutions Grant. “We are extremely excited about the program, final candidates and the news about the AIS Solutions grant. A focus on development (like this) hasn’t occurred for some time in Australian Archery and we are excited to get the group started” said Robert Turner

Increase in AIS Para High Performance Funding

Archery Australia would like to acknowledge and thank the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) for their recent announcement regarding an increase in funding to the High Performance Para Program.

Archery Australia CEO Rick Hastie stated, “We are very thankful to the AIS for their enhanced support and increased investment in Archery’s National Para Program. This is a welcomed reward for the hard work of our Para Archers and our National Para Program led by Graeme Rose, High Performance Manager and our National Para Coach, Ricci Cheah, who have been working very closely with the team at the NSW Institute of Sport and Paralympics Australia”.

The increase in funding makes for an exciting future for our Para Archers across Australia, especially in a time that has been very difficult for all, rest assured we are still planning and preparing for a successful Paralympics next year. The increased funding will ensure that our preparation for the Tokyo Paralympic Games will be uncompromised and also enhance our National Para pathway from grassroots to national level leading into the Paris 2024 Paralympics, and highlight that Archery is an inclusive sport and a sport truly for all.

Archery Australia look forward to continue working with the AIS, NSWIS, Paralympics Australia & our National Para Program team to increase Para Archery performances on the world stage and uphold the ideals of the Paralympic movement.

Archery Operations and Integrity Coordinator

Archery Australia is delighted to announce the appointment of Anthony Maxworthy to the new position of Archery Operations and Integrity Coordinator. Anthony has a strong background in Archery, with experience as a Team Manager of several state and national teams, Club and RGB committees experience as well being involved in the running of state and national tournaments.

The Archery Australia Operations and Integrity Coordinator will help grow and facilitate the running of the Archery across Australia. The role will support Archery Australia’s Strategic Plan regarding increasing participation, supporting clubs, running successful events and tournaments, developing coaching programs, governance support and enforcing the Archery Australia Integrity policies.

The post will be based in the Archery Australia Office in Sydney, NSW, on a part time basis.

Chief Medical Officer Appointment – Archery

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Sherwin Goh as Archery Australia Chief Medical Officer (CMO). Sherwin works as a medical practitioner at Brisbane Sports and Exercise Medicine Specialists (BSEMS) in Brisbane and oversees the medical services of elite athletes across a number of Olympic and non-Olympic sports. We are delighted that Sherwin has agreed to join our team and we look forward to working with him as we continue to build the Archery Australia national program.

Elected Board Members Nominations and Timeline – Call for Nominations

A Reminder that nominations are called for Archery Australia Inc Board of Directors, Elected Board Member Positions. There are two positions available on the Board.

Timeframe and process

• No later than 30th June 2020 call for nominations
• No later than 5pm (AEST) on the 31st July 2020 nominations close
• No later than 15th August 2020 distribute ballot papers and candidate’s statements to RGBs.
• No later than 5pm (AEST) 30th September 2020 ballot papers are to be received.
• No later than 15th October 2020 the CEO will be advised of the result of the ballot.
• Elected Board members will take office on the 1st November 2020.
