Olympic Champion Simon Fairweather Named Head Coach of Australian National Team

It is with great excitement that Archery Australia announce and congratulate Olympic Champion Simon Fairweather Named Head Coach of Australian National Team on his appointment as Australian National Team Olympic Coach.  

 Simon Fairweather is a celebrated figure in the world of archery, with a career spanning over four decades. Simon first picked up a bow at the age of 14 and quickly rose through the ranks, winning his first senior National Championship at just 17. His dedication and skill led him to remarkable achievements, including a gold medal at the 1991 World Target Championships and proudly representing Australia at five Olympic Games appearances, from 1988 to 2004. His career highlight is winning Olympic gold in Sydney in 2000.  

 As an archer his exceptional credentials have earned accolades like Young Australian of the Year and AIS Athlete of the Year. He was awarded the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) in 2001, and also became a life member of Archery Australia. 

 In addition to his outstanding results as an athlete, Simon has made significant contributions to Archery Australia. As Assistant Coach and later Head Coach, he guided the Australian squad to success, notably securing a Men’s Team Gold medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games.  

 Since 2014, Simon has channelled his expertise into business, developing archery products and consulting with elite athletes and coaches. His insights are also valued in media, where he has provided expert analysis for World Archery, keeping abreast of the latest trends in high-performance archery. His 1:1 coaching and mentoring further demonstrate his commitment to nurturing individual talent. 

Simon, with his extensive experience as an athlete, coach, and innovator, is dedicated to advancing the sport of archery in Australia. He is excited to develop the new Centre of Excellence program for recurve archery at the Australian Institute of Sport, focusing on fostering communication and collaboration to inspire the next generation of archers. Additionally, Simon will be working to build the depth of Australian coaches, ensuring a strong foundation for the sport ahead of the LA 2028 and Brisbane 2032 Olympics.
