BIOGRAPHY:

Casey has been involved with archery 7 years, and he spent the first 3 years using a compound bow. He picked up a recurve bow in late 2018 and started working with his current coach Graham Winston within 2 years of starting in the Olympic category. Casey has a unique circumstance making him use left-handed equipment due to his right eye to be undeveloped and blind, caused by a birth defect.

When he started working with Graham Winston his performance started to increase exponentially until 13/03/2021 where Casey had a catastrophic shoulder dislocation, tearing the cartilage in his shoulder and putting him out of the sport for 7 months while waiting for a diagnosis and then surgery.

After shoulder reconstruction surgery in late 2021 Casey was diligent with his rehab and recovered at an exceptional rate. With the guidance of his coach, and physiotherapist (Chris Greenfield) he worked his way up from 24lbs in poundage up to the competition draw weight of high 40’s.

Casey competed at his first national event in the 2022 National Championships in which he kept pace and challenged national team athletes with international experience. He finished with 2 U21 gold medals and placed 6th overall in open Matchplay.

Since 2022 nationals Casey qualified for his first Australian Team Trials in 2023. He qualified, made the first cut off and finished as a reserve athlete. After trials, he was selected for his first International World Archery the 2023 Oceania Target Championships. After a rough ranking round Casey managed to make it to the Bronze medal match against his fellow Australian teammate where they both performed to a world-class level, Casey winning bronze with a 29 to a 28.

In the remainder of 2023 Casey has continued to push limits, reaching 1st in Australia for outdoors for the first time and finishing 2nd in the 2023 National Indoor Championships behind an ex-indoor world champion Ryan Tyack by 2 points out of 1200. Casey also broke the South Australian indoor record held for 20 years weeks before the national event.
