THE PRIZE YOU WEAR
A silver belt buckle goes to the winner of each division.
Not a medal, not a certificate, but something an archer wears.
The buckles are handmade, and have been provided by the event’s patrons, David Rowson and Marie Hulbert, since 2022. Each one uniquely numbered, each one earned once. It is the most coveted prize in Australian field archery, and the event emblem carries its form and detail into everything the Championships put out.

Unmarked and Marked field
24 targets unmarked and 24 targets marked.

Mixed team of three
A team of three: one recurve, one compound and one barebow, mixed gender. It is a format unique to the Australian Open, and it puts the three bow types on the same side for the only time in the season.

Mixed teams
New for 2027: mixed teams, shot to the World Archery format. Two archers of the same bow type, one of each sex, head to head on the Friday afternoon.

Head to head finals
Individual, mixed and teams final. The winner of each division takes a silver belt buckle.
Hills Archers South Australia
The legacy of the tournament is Australia’s likely most challenging field course, cut and prepared by the team at HILLS Archers in the Adelaide Hills. Steep, wooded and unforgiving of a lazy peg read.
Entries for 2027 Open in november 2026
Teams of three and mixed team pairs each need to be registered before the entry deadline.
Teams are three archers — one recurve, one compound, one barebow — and must be mixed gender. One captain registers the team. No team? Register your interest on the same form.
If entries exceed 96, the Championships will run over two courses, with the unmarked and marked rounds shot in opposite order on each. Two courses will be separate to each other.
