Para Pathways Camp in Canberra Prepares Archers for Upcoming Events

Archery Australia recently hosted a Para Pathways Camp in Canberra, bringing together nine dedicated archers and three coaches for an intensive weekend of training and preparation. With a focus on event readiness, the camp provided valuable opportunities for athletes to sharpen their skills and gain insights from top professionals as they gear up for a busy season of competitions.

One of the standout moments of the camp was a live video call with members of the Paris 2024 Paralympic team. Led by National Coach Ricci Cheah, the call allowed the athletes at the camp to connect with the team, tour the village accommodation virtually, and offer their support. This connection to the Paralympic journey was an inspiring highlight for everyone involved.

The camp featured a blend of education and practical sessions, including workshops with AIS Strength & Conditioning and Physiology experts. Archers participated in technical shooting drills, recovery practices, and even got to test their progress in two Qualifying Ranking Events (QREs) at the Canberra Archery Club.

Among the participants was Stuart Hume, an archer who recently set a new National Record in the 70/720 round with an impressive score of 642. Hume continued his streak of success by achieving a qualifying score to enter the trials for the 2025 World Archery Para Championships during the camp.

This weekend was not just about training; it was also about building camaraderie and learning from one another. Watching Paralympic matches together, the athletes drew inspiration from the elite competition, motivating them for their own upcoming challenges.

As Archery Australia’s High Performance Pathways Manager Robert Turner shared, the camp was a crucial step in preparing our para-athletes for the road ahead. With more events on the horizon, including the 2025 World Archery Para Championships, these athletes are well on their way to achieving great things.

Stay tuned for more updates and images from this exciting camp, and let’s continue to cheer on our para-athletes as they reach new heights in their archery journeys.
