Alice Ingley Set To Become Dual Olympian

Rio 2016 Olympian, Alice Ingley is set to become a dual Olympian after successfully securing her spot on the Australian Team for the Toyko 2020 Olympics. Alice will be competing in both the Female Individual Recurve and the Mixed Team events in Tokyo.

Australia only recently acquired a female archery quota spot for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and it has been a long journey for our female archers. Alice’s performance in World Cup 3 and World Archery Final Qualification Tournament recently in Paris, France saw her pull ahead of fellow archer, Laura Paeglis, for selection.

Originally from Menora, Western Australia, Alice moved to Queensland in 2016 to join the Australian National Archery Squad.  There she trained under the guidance of Archery Australia’s High Performance Manager Graeme Rose and Head Coach Ya Ping Shih.

Speaking about her recent selection Alice said, “I am beyond happy and excited! It means so much to become a dual Olympian and to be able to share that with the entire support network that has helped me get to where I am today. After getting ill in Rio before my event I wanted to come back stronger and at 100%. It has been one of the toughest lead ins to a major event mentally, due to everything going on in the world. With the constant unknown and moving of goal posts, until I am there in Tokyo it won’t feel real.”

In her debut Olympics in Rio 2016 Ingley finished 17th after bowing out in the second round and is aiming to improve on this result in Tokyo. “Obviously going for gold is always the aim. I definitely want to better my 17th place from Rio and I really want to push myself and leave everything on the field. I am really looking forward to shooting in the mixed teams event which is the first time it will be shot in an Olympic Games.”

Ingley is currently preparing for Tokyo 2020 at a training camp in Switzerland with Australia’s Head Coach Ya Ping Shih and Technical Advisor, Coach Kyomoon Oh. Her fellow Australian archers bound for Tokyo – David Barnes, Ryan Tyack, and Taylor Worth – are also training with her in Switzerland.

Wish will our Australian archers competing in Tokyo the very best of luck!
